Blogging for Change - Old issues, new solutions
I thought it was a good idea to to start a business blog to supplement the journal articles I write on change management.
(PDF Articles) I trust that some of the issues raised here may be of interest to you to pursue away from this blog of ideas and thoughts. The blogs run in date order with the most recent at the top of this page.

Demands, Constraints, Stretching Targets and Time Management
Failing to plan is planning to fail. Interestingly, I have invested time in developing my new website
www.PhilipAtkinson.com and have had to ration my time to meet my other obligations.
There's never enough time to plan an important project but there's always time to fix it when it goes wrong. I wanted to be really hands on with the design rather than leaving it to a technical guy who had little understanding of the types of work in which we engaged in change management - so rolling my sleeves up I started to learn new skills.
Demands and Google Analytics Providing Prevision
Google Analytics is a brilliant methodology and so simple to install in each page on my site. Now, instead of relying on a simple tracker I can identify when and how long people arrive on my site and the specific pages to which they linger.
Okay, I know I will not be able to track the individuals and the companies but I have already identified key trends in consulting demand and that's worthy a pot of gold to me.
It means I can rationalize my marketing spend and energy and focus on the current issues at hand. It's fine reading through the FT and the Economist and paying special attention to NBC, BBC and CNN - but its identifying the key words that people use to search the site and the web and correlating these with the core concepts that people want to implement.
I'd encourage anyone with a website to get a firmer grip on their traffic and look at the potential that Google Analytics can provide. Keep on this page for the davnaced tools which are being made available.

Culture & Behavioral Change: Feng Shui for the Mind
When one gets really busy there is tendency to leave multiple projects on hold rather than closing them off logically in sequence and according to one's core priorities.
I also find that in the old days I would juggle many projects in the air at the same time rather than working through them sequentially until they were completed. I think we used to enjoy the stress, pressure, chaos and the relief when everything worked out just the way we wanted.
Now I recognize that managing my time and more importantly my emotional state in completing projects on time is critical to my sanity and surprisingly my creativity. You see I used to have this belief that if you were creating something nerw you had to adopt a random - disorganized way to give birth to the idea.
Now I now there is sanity in logical and managing the flow of energy - both my energy, and managing that of others through my office and workplace.
Management Theory & Feng Shui
I am impressed by the whole concept of Feng Shui. I'm certainly no expert but recognize that it can have major impacts on the design, location and working patterns, motivation and engagement with people. I guess it's all to do with how 'energy flows' around people and buildings.
You like me will have seen some dreadful offices and workstations where its impossible to see any semblance of order. Well now I truly believe in the management and flow of energy and in the core principles of Feng Shui for the mind.
Truly, the more organized I am, the more creative my ideas and the more easily my ideas are accepted by clients and implemented.
A 'Clutter-less' Office, Workplace and World
It's probably not a word - but I'll use it anyway. In recent months I have been listening to advice about clutter and how it gets in the way of one's innovation, creativity, performance and effectiveness and I have found some really great ideas on Jo Badger's website www.feng-shui-consultant.uk.com
Not all the ideas are relevant to me but some of the articles hit the idea of maximizing energy flow really hit the mark. In particular for business I see the energy and the health articles particularly relevent in this age of speed and pressure.
I have been to some clever an sophisticated Feng Shui sites before that promise huge benefits - but I like this site simply because it adds clarity, it does not confuse and doesn't try to mystify the the simple application of Feng Shui in 'psycho-babble'.
